Who is this course for? This course is being delivered for a small number of practising solicitors/barristers who are committed to British Nationality law and children’s rights.
Basic knowledge of law, policy and practice in this area will be assumed.
What will this course provide? The course will cover the background to the British Nationality Act 1981 concerning British citizenship as this applies to the rights of children to that citizenship.
- General children citizenship matters and registration by entitlement.
- General children citizenship matters and registration by discretion.
- Good character requirement in children and young adults’ citizenship claims.
- Application process, evidence and remedy.
Method of delivery: The course will be delivered in person at PRCBC’s office in Hammersmith, London.
About the Organiser: The Project for the Registration of Children as British Citizens (PRCBC) is the first and only organisation to focus directly on children and young adults and their right to British citizenship. Many children and young adults are eligible to register as British citizens, but do not do so for various reasons. We aim to raise awareness of registration and the importance of citizenship, as well as to support and increase the number of children and young adults who register as British citizens.
Trainers: Steve Valdez-Symonds is PRCBC volunteer legal researcher and caseworker. Steve was called to the Bar in 1985, is Law Society accredited at Level 2 and an IAA level 3 (JRCM) caseworker.
Solange Valdez-Symonds is PRCBC CEO and solicitor. Solange is Law Society accredited at Level 3.
Cost: Attendance is FREE but attendees are encouraged to make a donation towards PRCBC’s children’s hardship fund (or obliged to do so if cancelling late/not attending – see below).

NB: This is a free in person training day. ONLY ONE BOOKING per organisation/firm/chambers.
You should ONLY book if:
i) You are a practising solicitor or barrister working at an organisation/firm/chambers.
ii) You are registering for this event using your professional email account with the name of your organisation/firm/chambers.
iii) You agree to donate £150 towards our children’s hardship funds if not attending without notifying us of your cancellation at least 3 days before the training day.

Reference material: Attendees will be sent reference material before course delivery date. You will need to bring a laptop to access legal reference material during the session.
