We are currently raising funds to support Mary (not her real name). She is a 19-year-old born to refugee parents living in insecure circumstances before the family moved to the UK when she was a minor. She has a long history with social services and mental health services.
During her childhood in the UK, nobody took steps to secure her registration as a British citizen – for which a fee waiver could have been obtained. Now that she is an adult, there is no fee waiver for her to apply to be made a British citizen. She remains extremely vulnerable. It would be hugely positive for her to finally secure citizenship of the UK, having never before had any effective nationality.
